What is Ipamorelin?
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts as a selective growth hormone secretagogue and ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) agonist. It stimulates pulsatile growth hormone release with minimal effect on cortisol, prolactin, or appetite, making it one of the most selective GH secretagogues studied. Research applications include growth hormone secretion studies, body composition research, and recovery investigations.
How Does Ipamorelin Work?
Ipamorelin selectively binds the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a) on pituitary somatotroph cells, mimicking endogenous ghrelin to trigger pulsatile growth hormone release. Unlike non-selective secretagogues, it stimulates GH without meaningfully elevating cortisol, prolactin, or aldosterone, and without the strong appetite stimulation associated with ghrelin itself. The resulting physiological GH pulse drives hepatic IGF-1 production, which mediates the downstream anabolic and metabolic effects studied in body composition and recovery research.
